What is a good substitute for black powder?
Pyrodex and Triple Seven are two of the many black powder replacements. Both are available as granules and pellets. Use Pyrodex in the same amount as black powder, however cut your loads by 15% when using Triple Seven. Pyrodex provides three granulated black powder replacements.
How does Pyrodex compare to black powder?
While Pyrodex is safer and more efficient (in terms of shots per pound of powder) than black powder, the fouling level is comparable; Pyrodex is caustic and corrosive. When Pyrodex is utilized, the same cleaning lay routine as is used for black powder fouling must be used.
